Lismore GAA club will be holding a club fundraising quiz this Friday 1st November at The Classroom Bar. Teams of four at €40 per table. A really enjoyable evening with the towns best and brightest battling it out for the grand prize! Bunscoil Bhothar na Naomh Lismore win historic double! Congratulations to Bunscoil Bhothar na Naomh Lismore on winning a historic double when they won both the girls and boys primary schools western football finals. The girls were first out against kingpins Ballymacarbry and showed true class by dominating throughout. The boys drew on the first day against Scoil Garbháin and it was agreed that a replay would take place the following week. It certainly looked like the Ballinacourty lads had learned more from the first day out as they led at half-time by 1-07 to 0-01. Rumour has it that the Alex Ferguson "hair dryer" method worked wonders when the Lismore lads turned it right around and took complete control of proceedings and with a wind assisted second half pushed on to earn what was a memorable victory. Both teams now go on to their respective county finals in a few weeks time. Well done to the teachers involved. Lismore GAA Development Confined Draw Tickets for our Confined Draw are selling fast! Our minor hurlers were undone by a clinical and much more physical Ballygunner side last Saturday at Walsh Park in the County Division 1 Final. It was always going to be a mammoth task as Ballygunner were entering this clash as overwhelming favourites based on their pathway to the final. However, the black and amber threw everything into this game and from the very start one could see the never say die attitude that this team had built up over the course of the campaign. Dogged resistance and relentless tackling resulted in a well taken goal by Ryan Bennett who scooped the ball over the Ballygunner goal line to put the westerners within touching distance heading to the half-time whistle. Ballygunner responded with some well taken points to put five between the sides at the break. On resumption of play the heavy ground and energy sapping nature of the game began to play into Ballygunners hands and to their credit they took their chances with well taken goals. One could see the writing was on the wall for what was to be a disappointing outcome. We must acknowledge that we probably met one of the better Ballygunner minor teams in recent memory. Huge credit must be given to Lismore who persisted with that determined and resilient attitude right to the very end. Team: Fionn O' Gorman, Liam Coughlan, John O' Donnell-Roche, Sean Nugent, Jordan Murphy, Conor Howard (Capt), Pearse O' Rourke, Ben Shanahan Quinn, Eoin O' Brien, Jamie O' Keeffe, Eddie Walsh, Ronan Kelleher, Carthach Daly, Ryan Bennett, Cian Aldred, Dylan Conway, Jack Ryan, Sean Setterfield, Graham Stuart, John O' Dwyer, Daryll Walsh, David Skehan. Many thanks to the management team of Aidan Ormonde, Paudie Prendergast, Maurice Shanahan and Jordan Shanahan for their efforts during the year. Congratulations to Ballysaggart Congratulations to Ballysaggart on their historic achievement on winning the County Intermediate Hurling Final against Ballygunner last Sunday. They now play Causeway (Kerry) in the 2019 AIB Munster Club Intermediate Hurling Championship Quarter Final on Sunday November 3rd. We wish them the very best of luck.
