As we all woke up on Friday last the 6th of November, and like most people start the day by having a quick glance on social media and seeing the news breaking of the 2015 All-Stars Hurling team and to see the number 15 shirt being filled by our very own Maurice Shanahan. To say that it put a smile on my face is an understatement and it was so well deserved after the great year Maurice had on the field and the added pressure of taking over the free taking duties from Pauric Mahony .With the system that Waterford had adopted this year he was often the lone forward in the attack and he seemed to relish this challenge scoring some great and vital scores for the Deise. We all know the tough year Maurice has had off the field and to come through this the way he has is a credit to the man himself his family and his friends. Speaking on what winning an All-Star means to him, Maurice said: "Tonight is a special night for all the lads who got nominated and all the lads who are getting All-Stars, but it is probably an extra special night for me because of the road I came through to get here. Last year was a bad year for me, but thankfully I am here today to tell that tale. I am here today because of my Waterford team-mates and my club Lismore, because of my family, my friends and my girlfriend. They got me through the bad times". Maurice on behalf of everyone in Lismore GAA club we congratulate you on this brilliant accolade and wish you the very best in the future. #ALLSTAR2015 #MOSSTHEBOSS |
