The club are proud to have 2 County Cups named in the honour of two past members of the club.
The Denny Buckley Senior League Memorial Cup
The inaugural Denny Buckley Senior League memorial Cup was kindly donated by Lismore’s Laura Buckley in honour of her late father Denny who died unexpectedly at his home in 2009 at the young age of sixty. Denny was a very devout supporter of both Lismore and Waterford GAA and was a great friend to Lismore Camogie. He always made sure that the GAA field and dressing rooms were available to the girls in Lismore Camogie.
Denny's colourful GAA career with the club stretching back to 1965 when his blinding goalkeeping display did so much to bring the Western minor hurling championship back to Lismore.
Denny's sterling last line of defence displays for Lismore won the Under 21 Junior West and County championship double in 1967, and the sheer splendour of his net minding as Lismore were crowned intermediate champions in 1969 to regain a senior status which they have retained to this very day.
Denny's huge involvement on the administrative side of the club after his playing days were over included Chairman of both the Juvenile and senior sections at different periods, a selector in both camogie and GAA, and of course the groundsman supreme who always had the playing pitch and dressing rooms in pristine condition.
Denny’s great tragedy in his life was when his wife - the former Brenda Mellor of Passage East passed away at the young age of thirty seven, leaving him to bring up his daughter Laura - then just three years old - on his own. What a fine job he has done in raising such a fine young woman that Laura has become. Laura too has followed in her father’s footsteps in continuing her father’s tradition in GAA who was a key player on the Lismore Senior camogie team that captured two Munster titles back to back, and also helps out in the training of the younger members of the club. Denny indeed was very proud of his daughter as she captained the County U16 camogie team in 2003,which were the first camogie team to bring back an All Ireland camogie title to Waterford.
Waterford Camogie Board are very grateful for Laura’s donation of this Cup in memory of her belated father the Great Denny Buckley. The Cup is in its 3rd year and Lismore camogie Club are very proud to have captured the Denny Buckley League Title in 2012 and 2013.
The Johnny Flynn Memorial Cup U18A
The town of Lismore and indeed Lismore's Camogie enthusiasts were struck with great sadness on Wednesday morning February 20th when the news broke that local man Johnny Flynn had passed away to his eternal rest on his way to work. Johnny was a great ambassador for camogie and will be greatly missed, especially Lismore camogie club, where he was a member for over 35 years. Johnny was club trainer for most of these years where he trained girls from under 10 up to adult. Johnny brought many successes to the club over the years training teams to win many County finals and indeed bringing the clubs first All Ireland title in 1989 when the clubs U14 team captured the Féile Na nGael that year.
In recent years, Johnny created more history for the club when he trained the clubs senior team to capture the clubs and indeed the County's first Munster Intermediate Club title in 2010 and again in 2011, making Johnny a very proud man on both occasions. Johnny was a man who lived and breathed camogie and loved working with the girls and gave a huge amount of his time training and encouraging them to play to the best of their ability. Even tho' Johnny had stepped down in 2012 as senior trainer that didn't mean he gave up camogie he remained on as the minor trainer and gave a ten week coaching session to the girls in the local primary school in Lismore and was always willing to give a hand with the coaching of the younger girls in the Community Centre during the winter months.
Johnny was known far and wide throughout the country in camogie circles when he travelled with his teams for challenge games and indeed with his Féile teams. Johnny was also a qualified referee where he refereed many of the County's club games, he also served on the County Board a number of years ago.
Waterford County Board are very thankful to the family of the late Johnny Flynn for donating a new cup for the County U18 A Championship in 2013.
