Minor Hurling
Our minor hurlers were undone by a clinical and much more physical Ballygunner side last Saturday at Walsh Park in the County Division 1 Final. It was always going to be a mammoth task as Ballygunner were entering this clash as overwhelming favourites based on their pathway to the final. However, the black and amber threw everything into this game and from the very start one could see the never say die attitude that this team had built up over the course of the campaign. Dogged resistance and relentless tackling resulted in a well taken goal by Ryan Bennett who scooped the ball over the Ballygunner goal line to put the westerners within touching distance heading to the half-time whistle. Ballygunner responded with some well taken points to put five between the sides at the break. On resumption of play the heavy ground and energy sapping nature of the game began to play into Ballygunners hands and to their credit they took their chances with well taken goals. One could see the writing was on the wall for what was to be a disappointing outcome. We must acknowledge that we probably met one of the better Ballygunner minor teams in recent memory. Huge credit must be given to Lismore who persisted with that determined and resilient attitude right to the very end. Team: Fionn O' Gorman, Liam Coughlan, John O' Donnell-Roche, Sean Nugent, Jordan Murphy, Conor Howard (Capt), Pearse O' Rourke, Ben Shanahan Quinn, Eoin O' Brien, Jamie O' Keeffe, Eddie Walsh, Ronan Kelleher, Carthach Daly, Ryan Bennett, Cian Aldred, Dylan Conway, Jack Ryan, Sean Setterfield, Graham Stuart, John O' Dwyer, Daryll Walsh, David Skehan.
