Senior hurling quarter finals After a dramatic weekend of play-offs in the senior hurling championship, Lismore now know their opponents for the quarter final which will take place this weekend. Mount Sion will provide the most difficult of challenges as we head to Fraher field this Sunday to vie for a position in the semi-final. This pairing is fraught with danger as Lismore know all too well the challenge that the city men pose. Mount Sion, as we know, top the roll of honour list winning 35 county championship titles and will make life difficult for any team that they play against. The return of Austin Gleeson was well noted last week as he made a very positive contribution to his teams tally as they easily overcame a dogged Clonea side finishing the game with a six point margin. In saying that, Lismore have had an impressive run so far disposing of Ballyduff and Passage with ease but also well in the knowledge that this is now the business end of the championship. Recent challenge matches have gone well and training has been extremely positive. Will our “young guns” come of age and will Big Dan make another appearance? These questions and more will be answered on Sunday evening. We wish the players and management the very best of luck. Throw in at Fraher field is this Sunday 1st September at 6pm. Interesting Fact Did you know the last time Lismore met Mount Sion in the senior hurling county final was back in 1991 where the black and amber ran out deserved victors on a score line of 5-07 to 1-05.
