1990 - A year synonymous with the most successful period in the Lismore GAA history - Minor Team14/3/2021 This week features the minor team of 1990. Lismore had won this grade in '85, '87 and '88 and hopes were high that another county title would come to the cathedral town such was the success at underage level within that decade. The minor grade was always well respected and still is to this day. If a team was lucky enough to win this title it was an immense achievement such is the stiff competition from other great western and city teams. In the Western final, the side captained by Paddy Nugent beat Dungarvan 2-21 to 3-05. The final against Roanmore, according to reports, was a cautious and tame affair but Lismore held on to capture their fourth title in six years. Now of course was the time for all of these young players to "graduate" up to the senior ranks. The closure of a sixty six year gap of a senior hurling title must now have been the sole focus after what was such a fantastic year. The Lismore minor panel of 1990: Brendan Ormonde, Philip Hickey, Paddy Nugent (Capt), James O' Connor, Mark Clancy, Kieran O' Gorman, Paddy O' Donnell, Anthony Tinnelly, Keith Lynch, Alan Dunne, Dermot Ormonde, Keith Hornibrook, Paul Quinn, Pat O' Gorman, Michael Hickey, Richie Nugent, Oliver O' Dowd, Thomas Murphy, Michael Veale, Johnny Whelan, John Howard, Robert O' Sullivan, Dan Shanahan. Next week we look at the U21 team of 1990.
