Sunday October 3rd 2015 was County Final Day for the clubs Senior Camogie Team and they were going for a three in a row of County Finals against arch rivals St. Anne's. This game was played in Fraher field Dungarvan in perfect weather conditions for a good game of camogie and indeed both teams served up a very entertaining game for all who attended. Throw in was at 2 o clock under the guidance of referee John Kirby and it was Lismores Ruth Geoghegan who opened the scoring of the game with a point in the third minute, and some very competitive camogie was being played with St. Anne's Zoe O Donoghue denied a possible goal when her effort hit off the crossbar of the Lismore Goal. Nine minutes into the game Lismores Aoife Hannon scored their second point from a placed ball. It was St. Anne's Zoe O Donoghue who scored her sides first point of the day on the twelfth minute but was counteracted two minutes later when Lismores Shona Curran scored Lismores third point. It was St.Anne's who scored the next two points of the game courtesy of Jennie Simpson which meant both sides drew level on twenty three minutes which was very short lived as Lismores Aoife Hannon scored a point to put her side ahead once a again on the twenty fourth minute. St Anne's won a free on the twenty sixth minute and St. Anne's Pauline Cunningham stepped up to take the free which dipped under the Lismore bar putting St. Anne's two points ahead. Lismores Caithriona Mc Glone scored another point on the twenty eight minute before St. Anne's Jennie Simpson scored another for her side from a free in injury time putting two points between the sides at half time. Lismore 0-05 St. Annes 1-04. The second half began with Lismore once more on the attack and were unlucky to not have scored a goal when Aoife Hannons shot at goal was saved by St. Anne's Becky Kavanagh which was deflected for a "45" in which Aoife converted for a point followed shortly by another well taken point by Caithriona McGlone. Lismore were well on top of their game and St. Annes were finding it very difficult to contain the Lismore attack and it was Aoife Hannon and Caithriona Mc Glone who took sole charge of the scoring in the second half. St. Anne's scored their first point of the half on the sixteenth minute from a Jennie Simpson free. leaving the score reading Lismore 0-10 St. Annes 1-04.On fifty minutes a terrific save by Lismores Tanya Morrissey the ball was clumsily cleared by the Lismore defence resulting on one of the players touching the ball on the ground and St. Annes being awarded a penalty which was driven wide by St. Anne's Jennie Simpson. Lismores Aoife Hannon scored three more points from frees with St .Anne's Jennie Simpson scoring one point for her side with five minutes to go. Aoife Hannon and Jennie Simpson scored a point each leading into injury time with four points separating the sides before Caithriona McGlone having the final say in the game scoring her point in the dying minutes. History was made once more for Waterford camogie and indeed for Lismore camogie in Croke Park as the Waterford Intermediate Camogie team overcame Kildare in the Liberty Insurance All Ireland Intermediate Final on Sunday last. Lismore camogie club were honoured to have Caithriona McGlone as team captain and to have her team mates Nicola Morrissey and Shona Curran playing a major part in capturing the historic All Ireland title. The game its self began at a very slow pace for Waterford with Kildare registering the first score of the game with a goal on the third minute followed by two more points from them before Waterfords Beth Carton got them on the score sheet on the thirteenth minute. Waterford began to settle into the game after this and some points from Lorraine Bray and Jennie Simpson reduced the margin to one point with five minutes remaining in the half. Shona Curran was introduced in replace of Dungarvans Dawn Power on the 25th minute and was playing at mid-field grabbed the sliotar and drove it into the forward line where Cappoquins Aisling power won and duly struck a whopper to the back of the Kildare net. This gave the waterford side some great confidence going into the second half with a two point cusion. The second half began with a 20m free on the second minute of the half awarded to Waterford where youngster Beth Carton stood over the ball and struck a hard low ball which landed once more in the Kildare net. Things looked very bright at this stage for the Deise girls. Kildare tried hard but they could not get enough possesion into their forward line and it took them 22 minute to register their first score of the half. Waterford drove on and finished the game on a score line of 2-09 to Kildares 1-05. History was made and Waterford had won the All Ireland Intermediate title which entitles them to play at Senior level next year. Lismore are proud to have the captaincy (Caithriona McGlone). Also when Waterford won the Junior in 2011 Lismore also had the captaincy (Nicola Morrissey) and incidently when Waterford won their first U16 title in 2003 Lismore once again had the captaincy(Laura Buckley), so more history to be added for the Lismore club. Huge Congratulations to our three girls Caithriona, Nicola and Shona and the Waterford team and management and thanks to all who traveled on the day to support our girls. U13 Club Championship Our U13's are now in the middle of their club Championship and have already played two rounds and were very impressive in their games and had two wins; Lismore 4-12 De La Salle 2-02 Lismore 6-02 Butlerstown/Ferrybank 5-01 The girls have three more games to play over the coming weeks; St.Annes V Lismore Lismore V Gall Tir Lismore V Modeligo |
