Lismore senior hurlers continued their winning ways as they booked their entry into the semi-final of the JJ Kavanagh & Sons senior hurling championship. A late comeback by Abbeyside nearly caused a massive upset but Lismore held out to earn a deserved victory to earn their place in next week's semi-final. A dream start for young Oisín O' Gorman when he collected a breaking ball behind the Abbeyside defence and made no mistake in firing home the opening goal. Points from Finbar Reaney, Paudie Prendergast, Maurice Shanahan and another minor from Oisín laid down a significant marker in Lismore's intent. Abbeyside to their credit fought their way back into this clash with several points from play and placed balls leaving the half time score 1-11 to 0-07. Lismore started the second half with points from Oisín O' Gorman, Finbar Reaney and a wonder point from Maurice sailing the ball over the bar from just inside the Lismore 70 yard line. However, not to be outdone Abbeyside after several points from play pounced for two quick goals from Mark Ferncombe and Conor Prunty leaving only three between the sides. Was there an upset on the cards? Big Dan enters the fray to calm the nerves and lays off a breaking ball to Maurice amidst confusion in the Abbeyside rear guard. A sublime ground stroke crashing the ball to the net for Lismore's second goal and to send them into the county semi-final. Final score: Lismore 2-22 Abbeyside 3-11. Team: Seanie Barry; David Prendergast, Aaron Whelan, Conor Howard; John Prendergast, Iarlaith Daly, Anthony McGlone; Carthach Daly, Jordan Shanahan; Paudie Prendergast, Maurice Shanahan, Finbar Reaney; Oisín O’Gorman, Ray Barry, Jack Prendergast.
