LISMORE 1-6 GALL TIR 2-11
Lismore Senior Camogie Team lost out in their bid for four in a row of senior championship titles on Saturday last October 1st when they took on Gall Tir Senior camogie team in the senior County final in Carraiganore. Lismore and Gall Tir met earlier in the championship when the game ended in a draw. As the Lismore girls were ahead in score difference ended up in the final and had to await the result of the Cappoquin V Gall Tir semi-final to determine who were Lismores opponents in the final, this game ende in a comprehensive win for the Gall Tir girls. Throw in for the County final was set for a 3.30pm start and it was Gall Tir got on the score board with a point in the second minute, but Lismores Nicola Morrissey opened the scoring for them with a point a minute later, but the Gall Tir girls were in fine form and were four points to one ahead in the first quarter before Caithriona Mc Glone scored her sides second on the fifteenth minute. Gall Tir crashed a fine goal to the back of the Lismore net before Lismore started to come into the game and scored three points to one in the next ten minutes, but it was Gall Tir had the last say of the half ending the score line of the half Lismore 0-5 Gall Tir 1-6. It was Lismore who came out with all guns blazing in the second half and held Gall Tir to score one point to Lismores 1-1 (goal courtesy of Caithriona McGlone) for the first ten minutes of the half, but the Gall Tir girls kept puttting pressure on and pulled away to win the match on the final score of Gall Tir 2-11 Lismore 1-6. It was the end of the champions reign for the Lismore girls. Lismore V Gall Tir
Lismore Main sponsor ;Red House The Senior Camogie County Final 2016 has been fixed for Saturday next October 1st for a 3.30pm throw in in Carraiganore WIT. Lismore senior camogie taem will take on Gall Tir who drew with the Lismore girls in the 1st rounds of the championship earlier this year. Best Wishes All in Lismore Camogie club would like to wish our senior camogie player Grainne Kenneally the best of luck as she heads out to Syria during the week on peace keeping duties for the next six months. Recent Clothes Collection A sincere thanks to all who donated to our recent clothes collection and to all who helped out in any way. U13 League 2016 Our U13's have completed the U13 league but unfortunately lady luck wasn't on their side this year. Thanks to Shauna Prendergast, Nicola Morrissey and Tanya Morrissey for all their help with these girls. U16B Championship Our U16's have qualified for the U16B County final but are awaiting a fixture for the final. Indoor Camogie We are currently working on making arrangements for indoor camogie training and are hoping to commence it over the coming weeks. The Waterford Senior Camogie Championship 2016 has reached Semi-Final stage. Lismore Senior Camogie team has topped the group once more thus qualifying them for the County Final on October 1st. The Lismore girls now await the winners of Cappoquin and Gall Tir in the semi-Final to determine who they will contest in the Final. U16B County Final The Lismore U16 team who were due to play Modeligo in the County Final on Saturday last September 3rd was called off and will be played in the next week or two. Minor and Junior Championships Our minor and Junior teams have nearly completed their first rounds of their respective championships but lady luck was not on their side as both teams failed to record a win. U13 League Our U13 team are currently taking part in the County League and have played Tramore last week and that game ended in a draw. Our U14 girls have completed the County Championship, its now all focus on the upcoming Feile Finals which our club are proud to be hosting. Our visiting team Crecora have been in contact with club secretary Marie and are all excited for their visit to Lismore.
Our girls and their parents had an information evening in the club house after the Brickey Rangers U14 match on Tuesday last May 24th. A draw for the host families was done on the night and all there were excited for the upcoming occasion and great enthusiasm was shown by both parents and children with offers of help for the weekend. Bag Pack The final fundraiser for the event was held in Roches Centra Supermarket(by kind permission of Laura and Willie Roche) on Saturday last, this proved to be a great success with some great goodwill on the day.Thanks to all who donated so generously and thanks to all the parents and the girls who gave up their spare time for the bagpack. Feile Na nGael Update Feile Na nGael 2016 Launch The National Launch of John West Féile na nGael took place on Thursday 21st April at 7.00pm in Ballymacarbry Community Centre, Ballymacarbry nestled in the Nire Valley on the Waterford / Tipperary border. Our club was represented on the night by club secretary Marie Russell and committee member Shauna Prendergast and her sister Ciara. This was a great night of music, dance and celebration which showcased local talents from the national schools of Newcastle, Co. Tipperary and Ballymacarbry, Co. Waterford as well as other local dignitaries. The Presidents of the GAA, Camogie and Handball Associations were also in attendance on the night. Peter McNally who is manager of the company presented a set of Jerseys to members of the Lismore U14 camogie team along with Club Chairperson Mary Russell , Club joint Treasurer Tricia O'Keeffe and team mentor Amelda Landers at a presentation at their factory in Mayfield Lismore on Friday last April 8th. Lismore Camogie Club are delighted with QM Specials generosity as the club are in preparation for their upcoming U14 County Championship and the All Ireland U14 Feile Finals in June. Fixtures and Results Lismores U16 were unfortunately beaten by a stronger Modeligo team in the first round of the U16 B Championship held in the GAA field on Tuesday night last April 5th. The girls are due to play their second round V Clonea Power on Tuesday April 19th. Lismores U14 team who were due to play St. Annes in their first round of the U14 A Championship has been deferred to a later date. Lismores Senior team are due to play Gall Tir in the first round of the Senior League on Sunday next April 17th @ 11.30 in the GAA Field weather permitting. Feile Disco The Juvenile Disco which was held in Lismore Community Centre in conjunction with Lismore Juvenile GAA on Friday last April 8th was a great success. Thanks to all who attended and to all who helped out on the night. Feile Update Lismore Camogie club was chosen to host a meeting for West Waterford Camogie Clubs on Thursday night April 14th with Croke Parks development Officer Mary O,Connor in the GAA Club House at 7 pm. This meeting is an information night for all clubs hosting Feile. Presentation Night The next event for Lismore camogie club is the Medal Presentation night which is due to take place in Lismore House Hotel on Sunday May 1st. Medals will be presented to the Senior team who captured the 2015 League, the 2015 Summer League and the 2015 Senior Championship along with the 2015 U14 team who won the Feile Plate competition. The presentation of medals will commence at 9pm on the night. A disco with DJ Glen Curtin for the adult members of the club and supporters will commence at 11 pm. Admission €10 with bar extension. On Friday night last April 1st the club hosted a table Quiz in the Red House which was a great success. There were fifteen tables on the night, most were the loyal supporters of our senior camogie team and more who were parents of our younger players. Winners on the night were members of the Lismore GAA Club; Dan Geoghegan, Joe Pollard, Christy Brien and Robbie O'Sullivan. Thanks to them for handing back their winning money towards the club funds. Second place went to Quiz gurus; Pat Raferty, Eddie Pollard and Mr. Boyd. Third place went to our younger members of the Senior panel; Ellen Curran, Sharon Williams, Karen Kelleher and Alice Russell. Huge thanks to Mike O Leary the Senior teams sponsor who provided his premises for the event. Thanks also to all who donated the spot prizes for the raffle and the committee members who were in attendance to give a helping hand to ensure that everything went smoothly. This disco will be fully supervised. U14/U16 Training Both our U14 and U16 girls have been in training for the past few weeks in preparation for their upcoming championships. On Sunday week last our first fundraising event for the upcoming All Ireland Feile Finals in June took place at the Lismore Point to Point Races by kind permission of the Lismore Race Committee. A bucket collection was organised with eight members of the Feile panel on the day, sincere thanks to all who donated to our fund. The next major fundraiser for the event is a Juvenile Disco in conjunction with the Lismore Juvenile GAA club. This disco will be held in Lismore Community Centre on Friday April 8th. with DJ Liam O'Gorman , Admission €10 fully supervised and strictly no alcohol. The next planned event is on Saturday May 21st which will be a bag-pack at Roches Centra by kind permission of Laura and Willie Roche. Table Quiz The club will host a table Quiz on April 1st in the Red House Lismore. Tables of 4 €30 with great prizes to be won. Training Training has commenced for our senior team and for our U14's and U16's as the Senior League is due to start in April and the U14 and U16 club championship are also due to commence in April. Draws for these competitions not known at the time of going to press. Indoor training for our younger members finished last week and will be going outdoors after the Easter Break. Sincere thanks to all our volunteers who kept all our younger girls in training since last September and thought them all the skills of camogie in preparation for our outdoor season. Camogie in the Castle Gardens Our youngest members have been invited to take part in a game of camogie as part of the Castle arts Easter Spree on Easter Saturday morning at 11Am. All parents and their families are invited to go along to the castle gardens to see what our younger girls have learned throughout the winter months. Registration Registration for all members is being collected and due to the new registration system all members must be paid up before they take part in any compettiton for insurance purposes and will not be allowed to play unless paid. Third Level Camogie Well done and Congratulations to our own Sarah Coughlan who was a member of the Trinity College camogie panel who won the Fr. Meachair Cup Final on Sunday last when they beat Atlone IT on a score line of Athlone IT 0-08 Trinity College 1-10. Feile Na nGael 2016 The Waterford/Tipperary region will be hosting Féile na nGael 2016,the national festival of Under 14 hurling/camogie/handball for boys and girls over the weekend of Friday 17th - Sunday 19th of June 2016. Preparations are now commencing for this event and we in Lismore Camogie Club are proudly doing our part. As part of participation in Féile na Gael each host club is expected to provide host accommodation for a visiting team and thanks to all of the families who have so kindly offered accommodation for the weekend and have undergone a Garda Vetting process which is mandatory for host families for Féile. At a meeting which was held on Wednesday night last February 10th of parents and their children with selectors Declan, Amelda, Jim and Alice along with Club Chairperson Mary Russell and club joint Treasurer Tricia O'Keeffe, various fundraising events was discussed all of which will be disclosed over the coming weeks and months.
