The GAA and LGFA have paused all club fixtures "with immediate effect and until further notice", as huge uncertainty surrounds the 2020 inter-county championships in light of NPHET's latest recommendations. GAA president John Horan said the association felt it had no choice but to pause all club fixtures after problematic post-match scenes were highlighted. Bars and social clubs are also to close but "training will continue to be permitted as per the guidelines outlined for the relevant levels in the Government's National Framework for Living with Covid-19". Increasing transmission rates of Covid-19 are in almost every part of the country and worryingly seem no sign of abating. The restrictions will be reviewed in three weeks time and unless there is a significant drop in trends, the country will be facing into Level 4 and Level 5. We ask all club members to do their part in suppressing this virus and adhere to the restrictions going forward. Training will continue and further information can be sought from your Covid Officer.

Check out the story of Lismore brother's Oisín and Fionn O' Gorman. Well done to both for securing CAO places in Mary Immaculate College for the coming year The Lismore U15 hurling team have been drawn against Brickey Rangers in what has been dubbed "The Hoops versus The Stripes" in the Division 1 hurling semi-final. Lismore had a good win over Fourmilewater last Wednesday evening progressing to the last four. The half-time score read 1-08 to 1-05 but the home side knuckled down in the second half and ran out deserved victors in this highly entertaining encounter. Final score: Lismore 1-16 Fourmilewater 1-08. We wish the panel and mentors the very best of luck as they seek a place in this year's county final against either Ballygunner or De La Salle.
The Lismore U13 team put in a colossal effort to try and overcome a well fancied Ballygunner team last Wednesday evening in Bushy Park. The county semi-final was between two teams that had both topped their respective groups and was tipped to be a county final of sorts. The open draw meant that their fate was to be determined at the last four stage. Names like Hartley, Cooney and Fives would send shivers down the spines of other teams but the black and amber boys stood up like they have so many times in the past and met this particular challenge with tenacity and work rate right to the final whistle. Ballygunner started strongly with points from placed balls and play but Lismore settled right back into the game with some glorious free taking from Ben Cummins. It was a nip tuck affair with no clear winner in sight. It was the Gunners who broke the stalemate with a goal in the third quarter. Lismore immediately responded by changing tactics and brought on super-sub Tadgh Ormonde, small in stature but big in heart, Tadgh swept a breaking ball in the square to the back of the Ballygunner net and suddenly we were only three points down. Was there a major upset on the cards? Push as we may, the Gunners defence remained solid and that upset never came. This was a match that had everything and it was such a shame that spectator numbers were limited to only 30 due to restrictions. Gate receipts would have been at an all time high at Bushy Park. Well done to both teams for providing some fantastic hurling. The skill level was above and beyond what one would expect from an U13 match. Divison 1 hurling is alive and well in Waterford and Lismore are in the mix competing with the best. Thanks to all the players and mentors for what was a short but exciting few weeks. Final score; Ballygunner 1-14 Lismore 1-10. Team: Adam Cummins, Tiernan O'Keeffe, Tom O'Sullivan (Capt), Joshua Kiely, Hugo Quann, Dylan Cunningham, David O'Farrell, Kealan Dunne, Iarlaith Meagher, Dara O' Brien, Logan Ardern, Ben Cummins, Rian O'Dwyer. Subs used: Tadgh Ormonde for Logan Ardern, Ethan King for Rian O'Dwyer. Lismore senior hurlers once again failed to make inroads over the dominance of Ballygunner in senior hurling last Saturday in a blustery Fraher field. Lismore entered this game in great form with all forwards scoring from play with huge tallies of goals and points over the last two matches, 9-40 in total. That is unprecedented scoring and momentum was certainly travelling in an upward trajectory. Hopes were high, youth was on our side and our youngsters were playing well and rising to each challenge. Lismore needed a promising start to this game and that is exactly what they didn’t get. Indeed one commentator suggested the game as a contest was over after 10 minutes. Dessie Hutchinson had amassed 1-03 and was scoring with ease. It seemed Lismore were shell-shocked or overwhelmed by the occasion and lacked that man marking ability throughout the pitch, something Ballygunner have developed into a fine art. The black and amber got a boost of sorts when Paudie Prendergast got behind the Ballygunner defence and drove a delightful ball passed Stephen O’ Keeffe into the top corner. Lismore should have gained the impetus from that score but within 40 seconds Dessie Hutchinson had struck for his second goal and that was essentially that. Lismore tried their best to work themselves back into this game but Ballygunner have that ability to turn the screw at any particular juncture and maintained complete control throughout the second half moving the margin out to 18 points by the time the final whistle had sounded. Final score: Lismore 1-10 Ballygunner 2-25. Lismore GAA Club would like to sincerely thank the senior management, namely, Brendan Landers, Dan Shanahan, Barney and Seamus Prendergast and Craig Tobin for all their hard work during the year. We would like to also thank all the players for their efforts. This particular panel have a very bright future ahead of them.
Senior Hurling - Lismore through to Semi-Final
Lismore senior hurlers continued their winning ways as they booked their entry into the semi-final of the JJ Kavanagh & Sons senior hurling championship. A late comeback by Abbeyside nearly caused a massive upset but Lismore held out to earn a deserved victory to earn their place in next week's semi-final. A dream start for young Oisín O' Gorman when he collected a breaking ball behind the Abbeyside defence and made no mistake in firing home the opening goal. Points from Finbar Reaney, Paudie Prendergast, Maurice Shanahan and another minor from Oisín laid down a significant marker in Lismore's intent. Abbeyside to their credit fought their way back into this clash with several points from play and placed balls leaving the half time score 1-11 to 0-07. Lismore started the second half with points from Oisín O' Gorman, Finbar Reaney and a wonder point from Maurice sailing the ball over the bar from just inside the Lismore 70 yard line. However, not to be outdone Abbeyside after several points from play pounced for two quick goals from Mark Ferncombe and Conor Prunty leaving only three between the sides. Was there an upset on the cards? Big Dan enters the fray to calm the nerves and lays off a breaking ball to Maurice amidst confusion in the Abbeyside rear guard. A sublime ground stroke crashing the ball to the net for Lismore's second goal and to send them into the county semi-final. Final score: Lismore 2-22 Abbeyside 3-11. Team: Seanie Barry; David Prendergast, Aaron Whelan, Conor Howard; John Prendergast, Iarlaith Daly, Anthony McGlone; Carthach Daly, Jordan Shanahan; Paudie Prendergast, Maurice Shanahan, Finbar Reaney; Oisín O’Gorman, Ray Barry, Jack Prendergast. Subs Used: Dan Shanahan for Ray Barry (58), Paddy Foley for Finbar Reaney (65). Lismore GAA Club upcoming fixtures

The black and amber always looked in control here with Dungarvan providing formidable opposition but the blues seem to concede goals just at the wrong time allowing Lismore to tighten their grip on this particular clash. Ray Barry struck for 3-02 from his now customary corner forward position while substitute Oisín O' Gorman goaled two and Jack Prendergast provided the sixth from a close range touch to the net. Lismore did not have it all their own way with Dungarvan cutting the margin to one point at one particular stage when they seemed to break through the Lismore defence on a number of occasions converting four goals of their own. This will indeed be a cause of concern for the Lismore rear guard as they enter into the quarter final stage of the championship. Maurice Shanahan was again in fine free-taking form converting nine and one from play. Lismore will be happy with this performance overall as Dungarvan kept looking for a way forward but were ultimately dispatched with goals at crucial stages of the match. These scores were also coming from a team that have proven themselves not to be over reliant on a single player. Final score: Lismore 6-18 Dungarvan 4-19. We will now meet Abbeyside on Saturday 15th August in Fraher Field at 6.15pm. Junior Hurling Lismore junior hurlers ended their hurling campaign with a victory over a fancied Fourmilewater side last Friday evening. Knowing a badly needed win was the only outcome here, Lismore started the brighter with points from Daniel O' Keeffe and Paddy Foley. It was a nip-tuck affair with Fourmilewater always threatening for goals but the Lismore defence played one of their better games especially Fionn O' Gorman who kept a clean sheet for the second week in a row. Unfortunately we bow out at this stage of the competition on point difference with Fourmilewater and Tallow going through from Group 1. Final score: Lismore 2-15 Fourmilewater 0-14. Team: Fionn O' Gorman, Pearse O Rourke, Emmet Quann, David Smith, Ryan O' Keeffe, Jordan Murphy, Cathal Fitzgerald, Joe Lenihan (Capt), Daniel O' Keeffe, Paudie Coleman, Eric O' Sullivan, Paddy Foley, Ben Shanahan Quinn, Gary O' Connnor, Ronan Kelleher. Subs: Des Twomey for Ronan Kelleher, Darragh Foley for Ben Shanahan Quinn. Minor Hurling Our minor hurlers bowed out of the Minor Div 2C hurling championship with a defeat at the hands of Cois Bride last Sunday morning. We would like to thank the mentors for their time and effort in training the lads and hopefully we can build on what is essentially a very good foundation with some promising players coming to the fore.
